Following extensive reconciliation efforts, the civic body, which has long struggled to make top property tax payers clear their dues running into crores, has raised fresh demands with Panjab University and PGI, Chandigarh, to pay up their property tax and service charges, pending for years.
The case relates to allegations that prime public land leased at concessional rates for affordable housing was diverted to construct luxury real estate and commercial premises by private developers, notably Niranjan Hiranandani, managing director of the Hiranandani group.
Airwil Developers Private Limited, a private builder, had proposed a commercial complex, Airwil Wow, in Mohan Nagar and had collected advance payments from buyers for shops.

The case centres around a residential building at Nanjundeshwara Layout, which local residents alleged was coming up without an approved building plan.
