Acting on a series of complaints by residents and educational institutions, department of town and country planning (DTCP) moved swiftly to restore access to internal colony roads that were illegally blocked for years.
According to officials, the benchmark rates of residential properties in prime areas could increase by about 40%, while agricultural land on the outskirts would be increased by 10-30%.
The order, issued by the GMC commissioner under the department of housing and urban affairs, stated that all commercial, residential, educational, and industrial buildings should install and maintain rainwater harvesting systems and designated green spaces.
In the survey for the scheme held in Feb-March this year, nearly 7,500 applicants expressed their interest in 372 flats. In a previous survey (2018-19), the scheme received only 178 applications.
The Punjab govt has approved the acquisition of nearly 2,600 acres of land across various sectors for commercial, institutional, industrial, and residential use.
It plans to buy another 5,000 acres from nearly 2,000 farmers in Sectors 4A, 5, 5A, and 11. The acquisition is part of its plan to develop the region around Noida International Airport into a global investment hub.
“Goa will be the first state to submit an eco-sensitive zone plan to the Centre. We are working on sustainable development; there is no haphazard management,” said Sawant at the regional rural workshop for the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Gramin).
The complex, with an area of 6,856 sq ft, consists of eight flats — each with a living room, kitchen, balcony and two bedrooms with attached bathrooms — providing modern housing facilities for beneficiary families.
Following extensive reconciliation efforts, the civic body, which has long struggled to make top property tax payers clear their dues running into crores, has raised fresh demands with Panjab University and PGI, Chandigarh, to pay up their property tax and service charges, pending for years.
A senior official from the property tax department confirmed that in March 2025 alone, 780 cheques amounting to Rs 10.15 crore were dishonoured—the highest number recorded in recent years.
